As Headteacher of Kesteven and Grantham Girls’ School, it is my privilege to welcome you to our school and to introduce you to the opportunities, values and aspirations that make KGGS such a special place to learn.

At KGGS, we are ambitious for every one of our students. We believe that an excellent education should open doors, broaden horizons and give young people the knowledge, skills and confidence to shape their own futures. Our curriculum is knowledge-rich, ambitious and challenging, while also being engaging and broad, enabling our students to achieve highly and develop a genuine love of learning.

Academic success is important to us, but we believe that education is about far more than examination results. We want our students to be happy, to enjoy their learning, to feel safe and valued, and to develop into confident, resilient and compassionate young people. We want every student to feel that they belong at KGGS and that they are supported to be the very best version of themselves.

Our work is underpinned by our core values of compassion, teamwork, respect, integrity and resilience. These values shape the way we learn, work and interact with one another, helping us to create a school community where students are encouraged to take responsibility, support others, embrace challenge and celebrate success.

Our school motto, translated from Latin, is ‘From This Place Draw True Inspiration.’ Day-to-day, this means that we want every member of our school community to be inspired, challenged and encouraged to achieve well, while embracing all that KGGS has to offer. We want our students to leave us not only with excellent academic qualifications, but with a sense of purpose, curiosity and confidence about their place in the world.

Our curriculum follows the National Curriculum while, where appropriate, going beyond it. We seek to ensure that all our learners – regardless of their abilities, talents or individual needs – develop the knowledge, cultural capital and wider skills they need to become informed and engaged global citizens. Most importantly, we want them to have the knowledge, confidence and ambition to exercise choice over their futures and succeed in life.

KGGS is a selective academy in Lincolnshire, bordering Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Rutland. We have provided an excellent education for local girls for more than a century, having opened our doors in 1910. We retain a traditional approach to education, with a strong focus on excellent classroom teaching, self-directed study and high expectations, while continuing to evolve to meet the needs of the young people we educate today.

Our House system is an important part of school life. It provides opportunities for students to work together across year groups, develop leadership skills and build friendships beyond their usual classes. Our House Pantomime, House Choir and House Dance competitions are wonderful examples of what our students can achieve when they are given the opportunity to lead, create and perform. They are wholly self-organised, highly motivated and demonstrate the teamwork, confidence and respect that we value so highly.

The historic centre of the school has been carefully maintained and retains its impressive façade, alongside the Sixth Form centre in Harrowby House. Today, KGGS is home to more than 1,250 students and provides a vibrant and welcoming environment in which young people can learn, grow and thrive.

Our staff are committed to bringing out the best in every student, both academically and through an extensive range of enrichment and extracurricular opportunities. Students can take part in exchange programmes with schools in Germany and Japan, complete the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, and compete at national level across a diverse range of activities. Throughout the year, our students also take part in musical, choral and dramatic performances, while many represent their county, region or country in sport.

These opportunities are an essential part of the education we provide. They enable our students to discover new interests, develop confidence, build friendships, learn to work with others and experience the satisfaction that comes from challenge and achievement. We want every student to find something at KGGS that they can be passionate about.

Ultimately, we want our students to look back on their time at KGGS with pride and affection. We want them to remember the knowledge they gained, the challenges they overcame, the friendships they made and the experiences that helped shape who they became. We want them to leave us happy, confident, resilient and ready to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead.

The breadth of experience we offer is one of the greatest gifts we can give our students, and we are privileged to share that journey with them.
