Provision (OAP)
At KGGS, we want every student to succeed and feel supported. We provide what’s called the Ordinarily Available Provision (OAP) — this means the kinds of help and teaching strategies we use to support the wide range of student needs.
Because every student is unique, we use different approaches to help them learn, and not every strategy works for everyone. Our SEND team works closely with each student to find the right support based on their individual needs.
Identification
- Students can talk directly to their SENDCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), subject teachers, Form Tutors, or Heads of Year if they’re finding school work challenging.
- Parents and carers can share concerns with their child’s Form Tutor, Head of Year, or the SENDCo if they feel their child might need extra help.
- Teachers can also refer students to the SEND team if they notice difficulties in learning or progress
Some signs that a student might benefit from extra support may include:
- Consistent challenges with regular tests, homework or classwork
- Taking longer than usual to finish tasks or tests
- Difficulties with handwriting or spelling, even when copying notes
- Being unusually hesitant to participate in class discussions
- Limited social interactions or preferring to work alone
- Repetitive movements or behaviours noticed in lessons
Once a student is identified, we look into their needs carefully. If we find that additional support is needed, we’ll work together to provide the right kind of help.
High Quality Teaching

In summary the SEND Department will endeavour to meet the needs of each individual learner, using high quality teaching and where necessary, employ a range of additional strategies. Every learner is different, and each plan will be structured differently.
Independence
An additional provision of SEND is to prepare the student for life outside of this school. We will put an emphasis on students to manage their learning needs independently where possible. The best academic progress will be from full student engagement with our offer. Working together is at the core of what we do.
